Kawa Nemir undertakes a literary mission considered to be impossible: Translating James Joyce’s Ulysses to Kurdish, an oppressed language in Turkey, his country of origin. Due to the political conditions in Turkey, he takes refuge in Amsterdam as a writer in residence at Anne Frank’s former house where he continues this mission.
The Thing That Goes Through Everything is a piece that emerges from the translation process that evolved into the feature-length documentary Translating Ulysses.
